Buying

Is Device ID Changer free?

Yes. The app is free on GitHub: it lists your apps with their IDs, changes, backs up and restores them, and the new ID takes effect after a reboot. Instant Apply is the paid part: it applies the new ID right away, without the reboot.

How do I pay?

Tap Pay with crypto on the main page, enter your email and pay in any coin the payment page offers. Once the payment is confirmed, within 20 minutes and usually much faster, we email you a license key and a download link for the app.

It's a one-time payment: no subscription and no renewal.

The total at checkout may be higher than the base price: it can include payment fees and, where they apply, taxes such as VAT.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. You get a full refund for any reason within 14 days of purchase: email support@sdex.dev with the email you paid with. A refund cancels the license key. Details are in the Refund Policy.

I paid less than the price

The payment page asks for a fixed amount, but some wallets and exchanges take their fee out of the amount you send, so less than that arrives. Such a payment is not processed automatically. Email support@sdex.dev from the address you paid with and we'll sort it out.

To avoid it, make sure the amount that arrives matches the payment page: if your wallet or exchange deducts its fee, add it on top.

I paid but didn't get my key
  1. Wait 20 minutes: some payments take that long to confirm.
  2. Check your spam folder.
  3. In the app, choose Instant apply, then Don't have a key, or lost it?, and enter the email you paid with. We email you a link to get your key.
  4. Still nothing? Email support@sdex.dev from the address you paid with.
I bought before license keys existed

Your purchase still counts. In the app, choose Instant apply, then Don't have a key, or lost it?, and enter the email you paid with. We email you your first key for free. These older licenses cover 5 devices.

I used the old Instant Apply plugin app

Instant Apply is now part of Device ID Changer, so the separate plugin app is no longer needed. Turn off its module in LSPosed (or Vector), uninstall the plugin app, then activate Instant Apply in Device ID Changer. Leaving both enabled can make them interfere with each other.

License and devices

How do I activate Instant Apply?

Your license key looks like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. On the device, either tap Activate in the app in the email, or open the app, choose Instant apply, then I already have a key, enter the key and tap Activate. Activation needs root and an internet connection.

Keep the email. We store the key only in a form that can't be read back, so it can't be resent, only replaced (see I lost my key).

How many devices does a license cover?
  • A license bought today covers 1 device. For another device used at the same time, buy another license.
  • A license bought before keys existed covers 5 devices.

Instant apply → Manage activation shows the key's last 4 characters, how many devices use it, how many moves are left, and the purchase email.

What is a move?

A move is how a license changes devices. Each of these uses one:

  • Deactivate this device in Manage activation;
  • signing another device out with Sign out, offered when the key is already in use on all its devices;
  • getting a new key by email (Don't have a key, or lost it? or Move to this device), except the first key of an older purchase.

A license has 3 moves per device it covers in any 12 months. Each move becomes available again 12 months after it was used. Reinstalling the app on the same device doesn't need one.

With no moves left, deactivating and signing out stop working for a while, but getting a new key by email still works a few more times, so you can always lock out a leaked key. Past that, contact us.

I have a new phone
  • The old phone still works: on the old phone open Instant apply → Manage activation → Deactivate this device (needs internet), then activate the new phone with the same key.
  • The old phone is lost, broken or wiped: enter the key on the new phone. The app lists the devices using the key: tap Sign out next to the old phone and the new one takes its place. If no device is listed, or no moves are left, choose Move to this device: we email you a new key, every device using the old key is signed out, and you activate the new phone with the new key.

Either way it uses one move.

Does uninstalling the app free my device's place?

No. Uninstalling or clearing the app's data doesn't tell our server anything, so the device keeps its place. To use the key on another device, deactivate this device first.

I reinstalled the app, or cleared its data

Activate again with the same key. The app recognizes the device and gives it back its place, usually without using a move.

I lost my key

On the activation screen tap Don't have a key, or lost it? and enter the email you used for the purchase. We email you a link, valid for 30 minutes, that gives you a new key. The new key replaces the old one: the old key stops working, every device using it is signed out, and you activate your devices again with the new key. It uses one move.

I got a new key by email

Open the activation link in the email on each of your devices. On a device that shows it was signed out, you can also enter the new key with I already have a key.

"This device was signed out"

Our server no longer accepts this device's activation. Either it was signed out from another device, or the key was replaced by a new one sent by email, which signs out every device using the old key.

  • If you have the current key, enter it with I already have a key.
  • If the key was replaced, or you don't have it, tap Don't have a key, or lost it? and enter the purchase email.

If you didn't do either yourself, someone else may have your key. Get a new key by email: it stops the old one from working everywhere.

Does Instant Apply work offline?

Yes, for a while. The app refreshes its activation in the background when it's online. One refresh lasts 7 days, followed by 7 more days of grace, during which the app shows the date Instant Apply pauses. Once paused, saving an ID still works, but it takes effect only after a reboot, until the app is online again.

Compatibility and setup

Which devices are supported?
  • Device ID Changer: rooted devices with Android 8 to 16.
  • Instant Apply: rooted devices with Android 10 to 16.

Custom ROMs and devices with several users are supported. The easiest check is the free app: if it lists your apps with their IDs and a changed ID works after a reboot, Instant Apply can be set up too.

Does it work without root?

No. Android keeps app IDs in a system file that only root can change. Any root solution that grants su to apps, such as Magisk, works. Grant Device ID Changer superuser access when asked.

Do I need LSPosed or another Xposed framework?
  • Android 10 to 12: no, nothing else is needed.
  • Android 13 to 16, with LSPosed or Vector installed: the app uses it. Enable the Instant Apply plugin for System Framework and reboot once.
  • Android 13 to 16, without one: setup first tries to work without a framework. On many devices that isn't possible, for example because of the phone's security policy (SELinux). Setup then asks you to install LSPosed or Vector and finish with it.

The app picks the method and walks you through the setup.

Do I ever need to reboot?

At most once, during setup, when the method needs it (for example after enabling the LSPosed module). After that, IDs apply without a reboot. Without an active license, or when Instant Apply is paused, saved IDs still apply after a reboot.

Setup problems

"Cannot read the IDs" or "Make sure the app has root access"

The app doesn't have root access. Open your root manager (for example Magisk), allow superuser access for Device ID Changer, then reopen the app or tap Retry. If you denied the request earlier, remove Device ID Changer from the root manager's list so the app asks again.

"Couldn't start the plugin" or "The plugin files can't run on this device"

Without LSPosed or Vector, setup tries to start Instant Apply on its own. Many phones don't allow that, usually because of the system's security policy (SELinux) or changes made by the ROM. It isn't something you did wrong.

  1. Tap Retry once.
  2. If it fails again, install Vector or LSPosed, then open Instant apply again.
  3. Setup continues with the framework: enable the Instant Apply plugin, select System Framework and reboot.
"The plugin started, but Instant Apply didn't respond"

Tap Retry. If that doesn't help, reboot the device and open Instant apply again. If it still doesn't respond, this phone needs LSPosed or Vector: install one and continue the setup with it (see the steps above).

"This device's processor type isn't supported"

Setup can't start Instant Apply on its own on this type of processor. Install LSPosed or Vector and continue the setup with it (see the steps above).

"Couldn't download the plugin files" or "the configuration files"

Setup downloads a few files once. Check that you're online, then turn off any VPN, ad blocker, firewall or Private DNS that may block the download, and tap Retry. If the files were damaged or the server was busy, retrying a moment later is enough.

Instant Apply stays inactive with LSPosed or Vector
  • In LSPosed or Vector, check that the Instant Apply plugin is enabled and System Framework is selected for it.
  • Reboot after enabling it: the framework loads the plugin only when the device starts.
  • Check that the framework itself is active: its app shows whether it's running.
  • After updating Device ID Changer, reboot once more if the app asks you to.
Still stuck

Use Contact us in the app's menu (⋮). The email it opens has the app's logs attached, which show exactly where setup stopped, and goes to support@sdex.dev.

Changing IDs

How do I change an app's ID?
  1. Open Device ID Changer and grant superuser access.
  2. Pick an app from the list.
  3. Enter a new ID or tap Set Random ID. An ID is 16 characters, digits and letters A to F, in any case.
  4. Tap Save. With Instant Apply the new ID is live right away; otherwise reboot.
Why is an app missing from the list?

Android creates an ID for an app only when that app reads it for the first time, so the list shows only apps that have done so. After a factory reset or on a new device, open the app once, then come back to Device ID Changer and it appears. Some apps never read the ID, so they never appear.

The app still sees its old ID

After a new ID is applied, the app is stopped so it reads the new one on its next start. Some apps also save the ID in their own storage; for those, use the option to clear the app's data after applying a new ID.

Keep in mind that Device ID Changer changes the Android ID only. Some apps identify a device in other ways too (device fingerprinting), which this app doesn't change.

How do I restore an app's original ID?

If you backed it up in Device ID Changer, restore it from there. Otherwise uninstall the app, reboot, and install it again: Android derives the ID from the app's signature, so you get the original ID back unless the app's signing key changed.

How do I back up my IDs?

Device ID Changer can back up and restore the ID of any app, and export the whole list to a CSV file. For a full copy, back up /data/system/users/0/settings_ssaid.xml with a root file manager before making changes.

Is it safe?

The app checks every ID before writing it, to avoid corrupting the system file. Still, it changes system data, so you use it at your own risk: keep a backup.

Updates

How do I update the app?

Download the latest APK from GitHub releases and install it over the current one; your IDs, backups and activation stay. To get updates automatically, add https://github.com/sdex/AndroidIDeditorV2 to Obtainium.

"This app version is no longer supported"

Instant Apply needs a newer version of the app. Tap Get the update and install the latest version. Until then, saved IDs apply after a reboot.

The license refresh keeps failing

Tap Activate again and enter your key. The current activation keeps working until the new one succeeds, and reactivating the same device usually doesn't use a move. If that doesn't help, contact us.

Privacy

What does the app send?
  • With Instant Apply: activation and the background refresh send the license key, a device key the app creates, a hash that recognizes the device after a reinstall, and the device model, so the license can be tied to one device.
  • Purchases: the email you enter on the payment page, to send you the key.

Nothing else: no ads, no analytics and no tracking libraries, and the IDs you set are never sent. Logs and device details are sent only when you send them yourself with Contact us. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Removing and support

How do I turn Instant Apply off?

Open Instant apply → Manage activation and tap Deactivate this device. It removes the Instant Apply files and gives the device's place back to the license (this uses a move). If the plugin is still running, a reboot finishes it. To stop using the app entirely, deactivate first, then uninstall.

How do I contact support?

Use Contact us in the app's menu (⋮), or the "contact us" link on the license screens. Describe the problem, and the app opens your email app with your message and the app's logs attached, ready to send to support@sdex.dev. Without the app at hand, email support@sdex.dev.
